Body Sovereignty as We Age: Food, Sex, Movement and Dignity Kimberly Dark, writer, sociologist, storyteller (she/her)
Speaker Session, November 20 / 3:30AM-4:30PM EST
It’s one thing learning to be a confident fat babe when you’re young, but wow, the body keeps changing, so the learning never ends. How do we keep our body sovereignty intact when the external gaze continues to disdain and dismiss us in new and (really not) interesting ways? This session uses storytelling to explore how to keep our relationships with food, sex and movement vibrant as we age. We’ll explore body sovereignty from the perspective of body/self as subject and also as the object of a cultural gaze that disdains bodies that show age in addition to size diversity.
