Caregivers, people with lived experience, other eating disorder organizations doing education work in the school setting
Since the establishment of NEDIC’s Outreach & Education program in 2013, trained NEDIC staff and volunteers have delivered hundreds of presentations in the school setting to youth, educators, and support staff. Through this program, NEDIC supports the development of emotional resilience in students and advances the capacity of school personnel to participate effectively in eating disorder prevention. Introducing panel discussions for parents/caregivers that meaningfully engage them in programming fills a gap that remains in the school setting. The goal is for students to hear the same messages from peers, in the classroom, and at home – a whole-school approach to prevention. Ary Maharaj, Sarah Farrell, and Nancy Main will guide attendees through the panel development process, from planning to execution. Attendees will learn about how NEDIC creates safe spaces to acknowledge and address caregiver needs and reduce the stigma they experience, while empowering them with supports they can take and use at home.
